How did you get into triathlon?
Had friends that did it, I watched a few races and thought "If they can do that, so can I" - even though I didn't have a bike, had never swam farther than from the end of a ski rope back to the boat and running a 5K was a big event that required Red Bull beforehand!! Ha.
How long have you been doing triathlon?
I got my bike in early 2000, first race was that July. So, this will be seven years??
Anything that involves breakfast afterwards OR Saturday morning swim followed by a bike ride.
Do you have training partners?
A little bit of both, while training for my first marathon I trained "solo" and grew to enjoy it. I still enjoy training with friends / teammates but I occasionally need to clear my head so I go it alone!
Blackwater Eagleman Half IM. I really wanted to do well at the longer distance, I had done Gulf Coast the year before, and it was soooooo hot. I took almost an hour off my half IM time. Plus I really focused on racing while keeping my HR in check. It was just a good day......
RiverCities 2004! I knew I was pregnant and had to keep the HR down, but nobody else knew it - and people were yelling at me to "pick it up".... and "Come on Adrian, it's just a sprint, you can do it...... So Humiliating!
Why you do triathlons?
I love the three sports - it's really great to do a race that takes three hours - or more, and you don't even realize how long you've been exercising / racing because it's broken up into each little section - along with three separate achievements!! Plus, I love the camaraderie of triathletes. What other sport to people cheer you on while you're competing with them?
What's next for you?
Nothing planned right now, I just did my first Ironman (CDA '07) and now I'm just enjoying being a Mommy.
Most embarrassing moment doing sports?
Okay - so I had never trained with a heart rate monitor... and I got one for Christmas a long time ago... I was running on the treadmill at the Park Cities YMCA... trying to use the HRM for the first time. I couldn't get a reading, so finally I asked the guy running on the treadmill next to me why it wouldn't work and he started laughing and told me to wear the heart rate monitor UNDER my sports bra!! I had it on top!! NO KIDDING!!
Running Shoe that you wear?
What time do you wake up?
During the week 5:00 for those early workouts and around 6:00 on the weekends - How sad is that? I get up earlier to train that I do for work. What the hell?
Favorite song to train to?
Depends on what mile I'm at!!
Out of all 3 sports- which is your favorite?
I enjoy biking and swimming..... running would be more fun if I could only be FASTER!!
What kind of food do you eat during a workout?
My new favorite: Clif blocks. These are the greatest things ever!
Favorite food (regular)?
Mexican food - especially when I can have a margarita to go with it.
Other sports interest?
I have started doing some Pilates and other core workouts, it's good!
Something that you like to do that is not sports related?
Playing with my adorable son, William! I love seeing his happy little face, having friends over for dinner and now playing with my Wii!
Favorite TV show/movie?
Nip/Tuck. I know - I'm sick.
My husband's Ironman medals. I have witnessed what it takes to train and race an Ironman, and I am totally inspired by it. Secret motivation: Doing something that people don't really think I can do..... I don't think I'm great at triathlon, but when I train hard and have a good race and others are caught off guard, it adds fuel to the fire....... Now I have my own medal! I can't believe it!
Burleson, Texas - no, I DON'T know Kelly Clarkson!! I'm too old!
Interesting fact about yourself?
I had purple hair and dressed like a little punk when I was younger (and stupid!)
What do you like to do to get away from triathlon?
Spend time with William, getting into his world totally removes me from mine.
